On this day, the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States, let us come together in prayer for our nation:
Lord, we thank you for your abundant faithfulness upon our country that has preserved us for generations.
On this significant occasion, we pray for our president-elect, vice president-elect and all leaders of our country.
May your wisdom and discernment be upon them as they lead our nation.
We also lift up our outgoing president, vice-president, and other leaders as they step into their next seasons.
May your peace, a peace “which transcends all understanding,” surround our nation today, from the inauguration ceremony itself and the transition of power, to capitol buildings across the country, to our own hearts as your people (Philippians 4:7).
Today, we claim the truth and promises of your Word, “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11).
We come to you asking that the peace that only you can provide would be present in us, in our nation – today, and in the days to come.
Amen.
